Why it works for children & what’s in it

Times are estimates for the base recipe. Larger quantities may take longer.

Step by step

Here’s how.

0 / 4
Keep it simple today.

Cook the peas in the same saucepan for the last few minutes. It saves a pan; still follow their packet instructions and allow enough cooking time.

What you can prepare ahead

Measure the millet and mix the dip earlier the same day. Cover and refrigerate the dip immediately at 5 °C or below; cook the millet and peas fresh.

If there is room for it today

Helping is lovely. Watching is fine too.

Your child can mix the yoghurt dip in a cool bowl and choose whether it goes on top or on the side.

It does not have to be a family cooking project. It is fine to do it yourself today.

Good things for your family table

Why it works for children.

Soft grains are easy to spoon. Yoghurt brings a mild taste, while dip and herbs can stay separate.

The nutrients in these ingredients.

Protein

A building block children need for growth and for making body tissues.

About this nutrient
Iron

The body needs iron to carry oxygen in the blood.

About this nutrient
Folate

This B vitamin is needed to make new cells.

About this nutrient

These notes refer to the ingredients in the base recipe. The amount on the plate depends on preparation, portion size and swaps. Variety across the week makes the difference.

Make it yours.

No millet? Prepare couscous separately following its packet instructions and cook the peas separately. Couscous contains wheat and gluten.

Feeling a little unsure?

Offer a little plain millet and yoghurt first. A few peas can wait alongside to be explored.

Keeping leftovers

Cool untouched leftovers promptly in shallow containers, then cover and refrigerate at 5 °C or below within 2 hours. Eat within 24 hours. Reheat only once, reaching at least 70 °C throughout for 2 minutes.

For younger eaters

Designed for family meals from age 3, not as a weaning recipe. Always adapt shape and texture to your child’s abilities. Cook hard pieces until soft or grate finely; cut up small round foods. Stay with your child while they eat. For known allergies, check ingredients and substitutions individually.
