Why it works for children & what’s in it

Times are estimates for the base recipe. Larger quantities may take longer.

Step by step

Here’s how.

An easier way today.

Use only the small amount of ginger specified; this recipe does not need a stronger infusion.

What you can prepare ahead

Prepare orange and ginger fresh. Cool the hot infusion out of children’s reach.

When there is room for it today

Helping is welcome. Watching is too.

Your child can smell the peeled orange. An adult handles ginger, the hob and hot liquid.

For your family table

Adapt for younger eaters.

About four small glasses. From age 3, serve well cooled and very mild. An occasional flavour variation, never a requirement.

Putting it in context.

This is a drink recipe, not a cold or digestion remedy. Water is the first choice for everyday thirst; the strained infusion does not replace whole fruit.

These notes refer to the ingredients in the base recipe. The amount on the plate depends on preparation, portion size and swaps. Variety across the week makes the difference.

Make it work for you.

Leave out ginger if the family dislikes its mild warmth. Replace orange with washed, cored apple.

Taking it slowly today?

Offer a small sip first. Dilute with water if it tastes sharp, or choose plain water.

Keeping it safely

Enjoy freshly prepared. If keeping, cool promptly, cover, refrigerate at 5°C or below and drink the same day. Discard leftovers from used glasses.
