Warm, soft and made with just a few ingredients. Yoghurt goes in at the end; apples bring their own sweetness.

Why it works for children & what’s in it

Times are estimates for the base recipe. Larger quantities may take longer.

Step by step

Here’s how.

Keep it simple today.

Unsweetened apple sauce from a jar saves peeling and cooking. Then breakfast takes only as long as the semolina.

What you can prepare ahead

Cook the apples the night before and chill quickly. Make semolina fresh in the morning; serve the apples cold or thoroughly reheated once.

If there is room for it today

Helping is lovely. Watching is fine too.

Your child can have the measured semolina ready and later stir yoghurt into a cooled portion. An adult handles the hot milk.

It does not have to be a family cooking project. It is fine to do it yourself today.

Good things for your family table

Why it works for children.

The soft, spoonable texture is easy to approach. Yoghurt softens the warm semolina, while apple can be offered mashed or in tender little pieces.

The nutrients in these ingredients.

Protein

A building block children need for growth and for making body tissues.

About this nutrient
Calcium

Important for building bones and teeth, especially during growth.

About this nutrient
Carbohydrates

They provide energy for everyday life: playing, moving and exploring.

About this nutrient

These notes refer to the ingredients in the base recipe. The amount on the plate depends on preparation, portion size and swaps. Variety across the week makes the difference.

Make it yours.

Ripe pears work instead of apples. Unsweetened apple sauce from a jar is quicker; check its ingredients. Plant alternatives change the protein and calcium content and are not automatically equivalent.

Feeling a little unsure?

Offer the apple separately. For a smoother texture, mash the compote finely rather than leaving pieces. Start with a small bowl.

Keeping leftovers

Best freshly made. Cool leftovers quickly and refrigerate within 1–2 hours at 5 °C or below. Eat the next day and keep apple compote separate. If warming the semolina, add a little liquid and reheat thoroughly once.

For younger eaters

Designed for family meals from age 3, not as a weaning recipe. Always adapt shape and texture to your child’s abilities. Cook hard pieces until soft or grate finely; cut up small round foods. Stay with your child while they eat. For known allergies, check ingredients and substitutions individually.
