Why it works for children & what’s in it

Times are estimates for the base recipe. Larger quantities may take longer.

Step by step

Here’s how.

0 / 4
An easier way today.

Mix directly in a bowl with a lid. Fine porridge oats only need a short soaking time.

What you can prepare ahead

Make the whole mixture the night before, cover and refrigerate immediately. Stir in the morning, adding a little milk if needed.

When there is room for it today

Helping is welcome. Watching is too.

Your child can measure oats and stir the mixture. An adult uses the sharp grater.

For your family table

Adapt for younger eaters.

Grate apple and carrot very finely; do not leave hard raw pieces. Intended for family meals with children aged 3 and over. Adapt texture and amount and supervise eating.

These notes refer to the ingredients in the base recipe. The amount on the plate depends on preparation, portion size and swaps. Variety across the week makes the difference.

Make it work for you.

Finely grate the same weight of ripe pear instead of apple. Stir in a little extra milk at serving time if you prefer a looser texture.

Taking it slowly today?

Keep a little oat-yoghurt mixture aside before adding the grated ingredients. Offer apple and carrot separately alongside without pressure to taste.

Keeping it safely

Cover and refrigerate immediately at 5°C or below; eat within 24 hours. Take out only what you need and do not return leftovers from used bowls.
