Why it works for children & what’s in it

Step by step

Here’s how.

0 / 4
Keep it simple today.

Put the vegetables in the oven first, then start the quinoa. Cook the chicken last. Herbs can simply stay on the table today.

What you can prepare ahead

Wash and chop the vegetables earlier the same day, then cover and refrigerate. Keep raw chicken separate and well covered in the fridge until cooking.

Got interrupted? Tick off each step as you finish, so you can find your place again here.

If there is room for it today

Helping is lovely. Watching is fine too.

Your child can help rinse the quinoa in the sieve and pick the parsley leaves. Raw chicken, the hob and the oven are jobs for adults.

It does not have to be a family cooking project. It is fine to do it yourself today.

Good things for your family table

Why it works for children.

Quinoa, chicken and soft vegetables can be tried one at a time. Lemon and herbs are added at the table, giving your child a say in the flavour.

About this nutrient

These notes refer to the ingredients in the base recipe. The amount on the plate depends on preparation, portion size and swaps. Variety across the week makes the difference.

Make it yours.

No quinoa? Prepare couscous separately following the packet instructions, adjusting the water and cooking time accordingly. Couscous contains wheat and gluten.

Feeling a little unsure?

Start with a few quinoa grains beside the familiar chicken. Offer lemon and herbs separately. A new food can simply be looked at first.

Keeping leftovers

Cool leftovers promptly in shallow containers, then cover and refrigerate at 5 °C or below within 2 hours. Eat within 24 hours. Reheat only once, reaching at least 70 °C throughout for 2 minutes.

For younger eaters

Designed for family meals from age 3, not as a weaning recipe. Always adapt shape and texture to your child’s abilities. Cook hard pieces until soft or grate finely; cut up small round foods. Stay with your child while they eat. For known allergies, check ingredients and substitutions individually.
